In collaboration with Inugo, a parking operator in San Diego decided to roll out updated signage promoting Inugo's Scan-to-Pay feature on their surface lots to study the impact of signage on digital uptake.
Inugo supports digital payments for parking either through the use of the inugo app or through scan-to-pay. Scan-to-Pay uses QR code technology to allow an app-less and cashless way to pay for parking. The parker scans the QR code and is taken to a webpage to enter their license plate, set their parking session time and pay for their parking. The license plate information is passed to the operator’s enforcement provider to enable a fully integrated and seamless process.
A parking operator in San Diego, an early adopter of Inugo's parking solution in the United States, has been successfully using the Inugo app on their surface lots for six years, generating approximately 8% of their total revenue through Inugo. In collaboration with Inugo, the operator decided to roll out updated signage promoting Inugo's Scan-to-Pay feature on their surface lots to study the impact of signage on digital uptake.
A total of 68 signs were installed at 15 sites in San Diego to assess the effectiveness of the new signage in encouraging digital transactions. The results of the case study were remarkable.
Increased sessions: Comparing the number of sessions via the Inugo solution before and after the installation of the signage, one lot experienced a remarkable 706% increase in sessions.
Increased revenue: On average, across all sites, there was a 209% increase in revenue collected via Inugo for the entire month.
To maximize digital uptake, Inugo suggests placing scan-to-pay signs every 12 meters or using a space-to-sign ratio of 20%. For example, a location with 60 spaces would require 12 signs.
The case study also explored the impact of different signage ratios on digital transaction uptake.
It was found that:
• A lot with a 3% signage-to-space ratio experienced a monthly revenue-by-space increase of 237%.
• In comparison, a lot with a 10% signage ratio outperformed with a monthly revenue-by-space increase of 376%.
Inugo determined that the lots with a 15% sign-to-space ratio had the highest number of digital sessions per space over the course of a month.
The overwhelming conclusion from the case study is that parkers want to pay digitally. As the operator confirmed “People prefer to use their phone to pay for parking”, [providing the inugo solution]“is a perk for our customers”.
Inugo's Scan-to-Pay solution is fully white-labeled, allowing operators to display their brand in front of parkers.
The solution supports popular payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
All charges settle directly to the operator's nominated merchant account.
Inugo's Customer Management Portal enables operators to generate QR codes for seamless transactions.
Inugo allows you to customize your QR code with branding features such as logo overlay or color gradient to revent QR sign fraud. You can also track activity by sign as a surveillance measure.
